I dreamed of two lovely girls identical believe it or not they were both angels
One handed me a water pipe and I thought it wise
The other silently scanned my heart with her eyes
On the front porch of Dewey street of a warm afternoon
And my good friends did descend from their rooms
The first gal giggled as I smoked my pipe wisely
The other looked on at the young men blindly
And a phone call woke me a phone call woke me
My flawed memory of them was smoky
Hello said a stranger I need the address
She said I wrote you a letter but I must confess
It had been a long year since our brief introduction
Still fresh from my dream I begged verification
My sleepy eyes were glistening after receding visages
Sure go on and send me unsolicited messages
The vague sense of hope in her voice was almost tangible
But did she know I’d been accused of crimes unimaginable
And my own heart broke me my own heart broke me
A perfect paradigm of dopey poetry
I received that week only two grim envelopes
Neither of which would soon lead a man to hope
One said I couldn’t see my boy any more
The other called me a rapist but I’m just a whore
At the end of each rope was one dire diabla
With my neck in each noose and no use in talking to
Either of these gals as to the weight of their decisions
As they joined hands and continued with my derision
And those devils smote me those devils smote me
I hung my head and cried so low and lonely
I hung my head and cried so low and lonely
Jim, I'm loving this album! Sounds so good. I don't think the pedal steel was on the last versions of these tracks I heard. It's great! Kudos on a lovely record. Ben Armstrong
